Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaos Theory, and Applied Physics in Kiel

The research interests of our experimental group are the nonlinear dynamics of complex systems. The focus of our work is the study of hydrodynamic systems, e.g., Taylor-Couette flow, and the appearance of instabilities as well as the onset of chaos and turbulence.

By Car

  • Case 1: You come using the “Autobahn”, i.e., from Hamburg or Rendsburg
    1. Take drive “B76/B503 towards Eckernförde/ Olympiazentrum/ Flughafen Kiel/ Universität”. (0.3 km)
    2. Stay left und take the “B76/ Olof-Palme-Damm”. (2.5 km)
    3. Take drive towards “Kronshagen Nord/ Kiel Zentrum” and maintain left. (0.2 km)
    4. Turn left in “Eckernförder Str.”. (1.3 km)
    5. Turn right in “Johann-Fleck-Str.”. (0.6 km)
    6. Turn right again in “Olshausenstr.”. (0.4 km)
    7. Turn left in “Leibnizstr.”. You have to pass a barrier here. You'll pass the library on your left site. The Physikzentrum lies behind it a few meters onward the road. (0.3 km)
  • Case 2: You come from the north (B76), i.e., from Eckernförde
    1. After you have passed the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal (Kiel-Channel, high bridge), take drive towards “Kiel-Steenbek/ Projensdorf/ Suchsdorf”. (0.2 km)
    2. At the traffic light turn left in “Steenbeker Weg”. (0.9 km)
    3. At the gas station turn right in “Torfmoorkamp”. (1.4 km)
    4. Turn left in “Leibnizstr.”. You have to pass a barrier here. You'll pass the library on your left site. The Physikzentrum lies behind it a few meters onward the road. (0.3 km)
  • Case 3: You come from the south (B76 or B404), i.e., from Plön or Lübeck
    1. In Kiel stay in B76 (towards Eckernförde).
    2. Take drive towards “Kronshagen Nord/ Kiel Zentrum” and maintain left. (0.2 km)
    3. Turn left in “Eckernförder Str.”. (1.3 km)
    4. Turn right in “Johann-Fleck-Str.”. (0.6 km)
    5. Turn right again in “Olshausenstr.”. (0.4 km)
    6. Turn left in “Leibnizstr.”. You have to pass a barrier here. You'll pass the library on your left site. The Physikzentrum lies behind it a few meters onward the road. (0.3 km)

By Train

You travel till Kiel main station (Hauptbahnhof, Hbf.). Take the great exit in the middle, if you want to take a taxicab.

If you want to take the bus, take the left exit of the station. All scheduled bus lines start in front of the station. Head to bus stop D1 on the other site of the road and take line 82 towards “Botanischer Garten” and leave the bus at bus stop “Universitätsbibliothek”. The Physikzentrum is located on the left site a few steps onward the street.
