The COSTEP instruments LION (Low energy Ion and electron instruments) and EPHIN (Electron Proton Helium Instrument) measure electrons and protons above 40 keV up to above 5 MeV for electrons and greater than 53 MeV for protons. Helium is detected above 6 MeV and helium isotopes are separated between 4 and 53 MeV/n. The instruments are designed to detect sufficiently large samples of solar atmospheric material also at low intensity solar particle events to correlate its results with the observations by the other particle instruments on board and with the observations of the optical instruments on board SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory). Descriptions of the instruments and the data format are given and a possible correlative data evaluation is discussed.
